Kristin Lauterbach
Kristin Lauterbach is a Los Angeles, California-based, Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher, or RYT 500 hour and Y12SR (Yoga of 12-Step Recovery) instructor. She received her teacher training through Yogaworks under the study of the gifted Malachi Grieves. Kristin Lauterbach is currently enrolled at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) pursuing her certification in Yoga Therapy Rx. She has completed her first year of classes and is currently in her second year. The program is lead by renowned author and internationally respected yoga teacher Larry Payne, Ph.D
Kristin Lauterbach first found yoga over 20 years ago after struggling with sciatica for several years. The practice of yoga helped her minimize the pain she was experiencing and enjoy life more fully. She continued her yoga practice at home and at the Center for Yoga on Larchmont. She often entertained the idea of getting her yoga teaching certificate but at the time was pursuing another career path in the film and entertainment industry. However, after 15 years of working in the entertainment industry, she no longer felt this path served a purpose in her life. Her energy shifted to a more holistic approach to life and she opened an organic skincare company called Root Beauty. All the while, she continued her yoga practice enjoying the instruction of Carmen Fitzgibbon at Yogaworks on Larchmont.
Kristin Lauterbach’s yoga practice took on new depth when she became pregnant with her daughter. She began to see the powerful benefits of yoga as a mental and spiritual practice as well. She saw the benefits yoga offered to easy her body and mind and it went through a transformation in pregnancy and birth. She used yoga a tool to calm her anxiety and prepare her body for birth. In fact the tools she learned to steady and calm her mind and body in yoga were so effective for her, she didn’t make it to the hospital to deliver her daughter. Her daughter was born safely at home in a tranquil environment.
Yoga has played a huge role in Kristin Lauterbach’s emotional healing process. At 14 months old her daughter almost died in an anaphylactic reaction and was rushed to the hospital and was placed in the PICU. At the same time a close family member was struggling with a serious addiction. This combination of events became a set up for PTSD for Kristin. Through her yoga practice, psychological therapy, EMDR and new spiritual practices she was able to process the trauma and move into a fulfilling life again.
